Was looking at Dadant's website and they had an Extractor for
$115.95 that is made in China. It was a two frame extractor but
I only have 2 hives at this time so that looked like it would be
great for my needs. I went ahead and ordered one with a bottling
bucket and strainers for the bottling bucket. It took awhile for
them to ship but I finally received the items. I went ahead and
removed my honey from the supers and used the extractor. I
thought you had to really turn the extractor hard for it to
work. I ended up tearing up 4 of the 6 frames that were
extracted. Just a good gentle turns works fine.
This is the inside of the China made
Extractor. You do have to extract one side of the frame and then
reverse the frame to extract the other side.
Here is two hive body size frames in the
extractor
This is Super frames in the extractor at an angle.
Homemade Uncapping Tank
I went to Lowes and purchased 2 Rubbermaid
containers to make an uncapping tank.
They fit well into the top of each
other.
I took the smaller one and drilled many 1/4" holes
in the bottom.
I have a net that I put in this container to catch
the big stuff. Then I sit the smaller inside the larger
container and this is where I uncap the frames. The
honey runs out through the net and into the bottom
container. It seems to work very well.
